Our Engagement Story....
Valentines Day 2013, Greg and I had just finished a nice dinner with his parents and we were on our way back to our area of town when we were pulled over by the cops! I asked him if he was speeding and he said he wasn't so I was sure we would just be let go quickly. I got out the registration and insurance from the glove box to hand to the cop at Greg's window and all of the sudden I hear a knock on my window, so I rolled down the window and that cop took the registration and insurance from me as he's shining his flashlight in my eyes and looking around the car. These two cops were extremely rude and asking the most bizarre questions! They kept repeating, "how much have you guys had to drink tonight, where are you coming from, do you have any drugs or weapons in the car" over and over and over. I was so confused why they were asking us this because I still didn't know what we were pulled over for. (And if you know us, we are a good little Mormon couple that doesn't drink or do drugs!) They asked us to get out of the car and "keep our hands where they could see them" and to sit on the curb by our car. (This was all taking place in a church parking lot, so we weren't on the open road). Again, they were asking those invasive questions and making us feel like we did something really wrong. So they asked Greg to come to the police car so they could search him. I'm sitting on the curb watching him get searched from about 15 feet away and all of the sudden I see him getting handcuffed and put in back of the police car!!! I was in SHOCK!!! The officer came back to me and asked why I was lying and what else I had on me, I was still so confused and had no idea what he was talking about. He asked me why they just found marijuana on my boyfriend. It seemed like everything I knew about him was crumbling, I was freaking out!!! So they asked if they could search my car and search me and I gave my consent and just put my head down on my knees and was about to burst into tears! (I was planning to marry this guy and now all of the sudden he is not who I thought he was and I was going to have to call his parents and tell them their son was arrested for drug possession!!) The officer asked me to get up and stand in between the cop car and my car with my back to the police car. I thought they were going to start searching me at this point, but he asked if I wanted to go take a look at the marijuana they had found. I said NO and just stood there frozen. He told me again to go look at the drugs, so I walked over to where this tiny bag was and see my ring on the hood of the police car! I was still confused. Then I see Greg walking around the car, grabs the ring from me and gets down on his knee and says "Denae Faller, will you marry me?" Still in shock, I said YES, and then hit him! I couldn't believe he had done this to me, it was the sickest joke ever! He had planned the entire things with his high school friend who is now a cop and had been texting my entire family about it all day. My family knew I was going to be scared out of my mind and didn't even warn me (rude!) And Greg's parents were across the street watching and taking pictures of the entire thing. I was clueless!! Luckily I am so head over heels for Greg that I couldn't hold this against him, because looking back on it now it is hilarious, but going through it was not the funnest thing ever. But that is the start of our happy life together and I'm sure much more to come!!
